Understand My Bill, Meter, Sewer Charge and Published Rates
What is on the bill?
Monthly bills can include water, sewer and, for most customers, curbside refuse collection billed on behalf of the City of Albuquerque.
Water unit
The rate ordinance uses one water unit as 100 cubic feet. The published commodity rate is per CCF.
Delinquent penalty
Published ordinance says charges become delinquent 15 days after the “due by” date, and a 1.5% per month penalty may apply.
Charge / topic |
Useful official detail |
User action |
|---|---|---|
Residential water fixed monthly charge |
Current published rate ordinance lists Service Size 1 residential fixed monthly water charge at $11.21. |
Verify meter/service size before estimating bill. |
Water commodity charge |
Published commodity charge lists $2.310 per unit plus $0.024 per unit for the New Mexico water conservation fee. |
Use bill calculator/statement for account-specific totals. |
Residential sewer fixed monthly charge |
Service Size 1 residential fixed monthly sewer charge is listed at $3.64 for customers with water service. |
Sewer is separate from water fixed charge. |
Sewer commodity charge |
Retail sewer commodity charge total listed at $2.049 per CCF. |
Winter usage can affect sewer calculations. |
Sewer winter average |
Sewer commodity charge can be based on winter months average logic rather than all outdoor summer water use. |
Fix winter leaks quickly because winter usage can affect sewer billing. |
Trash/refuse line |
ABCWUA billing page says refuse questions should be directed to solid-waste agencies. |
City Solid Waste: 505-761-8100; County Solid Waste: 505-224-1639. |
Water waste / extra carts / adjustments |
Additional charges may appear on the bill. |
Use “Understanding My Bill” and call Option 0 if the charge is unclear. |
HomeConnect: Track Water Use, Catch Leaks Early
What it does
If your meter has AMI, HomeConnect lets you see hour-by-hour or daily water usage after you log into your Water Authority account.
Why it matters
Unusual usage spikes can indicate toilet, irrigation, yard-line or plumbing leaks before the next monthly bill arrives.
Need help?
Call 505-842-WATR, Option 0 during business hours and ask a representative to help you set up access.
Create or open My Account
Start at the ABCWUA website and choose “My Account,” or go directly to account.abcwua.org.
Enter your account number
Have your Water Authority account number ready from the bill. Guest Pay uses the 10-digit account number.
Open usage view
Once account access is set up, use “View Water Usage” to check daily or hour-by-hour patterns if your AMI meter supports it.
Look for leak patterns
Continuous overnight flow, sudden spikes, or irrigation-cycle jumps can point to toilets, irrigation valves, yard lines or indoor plumbing.
